3 held on extortion bid

Three persons purportedly belonging to underground factions were arrested in Dimapur by police for extorting money at different locations Monday. In one incident, two activists of “Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN)” were apprehended by the Special Operations Team (SOT) at Super market bus parking Monday at around 3 p.m. The duo were allegedly extorting money on behalf of FGN. They were identified as “captain” Nikheto Sema (55), resident of Thilixu village and “2nd lt” Ikugha (51), resident of Henevi village. Police said the duo confessed they were collecting money for expenditure of their leaders involved with the reconciliation process outside the country. Eight money receipts of Rs 10,000 each along with a cash of Rs 11,300 were recovered from them. In another incident, one person identified as Kaboto Sema (33), resident of Imkonglenden, was nabbed by police Monday noon between G S Road and Marwaripatti, while serving extortion notes. The accused was nabbed while serving demand note of Rs 5 Lakhs to a shopkeeper in the name of NSCN/GPRN secretary finance Pukato Sumi, police said. Three other accomplices managed to escape before the police team reached the spot.
