The new building for government middle school, GMS Shatuza under Meluri sub-division was inaugurated by Kevi Liegise, state project director (SPD), SSA Nagaland on Tuesday. Speaking at the inaugural programme, Liegise said that the real meaning of education was not only enabling children to read and write but to make students good citizens of the society.
Stressing on value based education, the SPD called upon parents, teachers, community leaders and students to know their rights and responsibilities towards education. He said that the Right to Education Bill was introduced to ensure that progress was seen in all fields of education in the state.
Liegise said that with SSA funding, schools now have impressive buildings, but it is up to the parents, village education committees (VECs) and students to maintain them so that it lasts for long period of time.
Earlier, chairing the programme, VEC Chairman, M. Thuchu expressed concern over shortage of teachers in the schools, stating that not a single teacher was posted for the newly upgraded school. He also sought other assistance from SSA including toilet and drinking water facility.
The new GMS building was constructed at a total cost of Rs.6.9 Lakhs, with Rs.4.5 lakhs from SSA and the remaining amount, including the land were contributed by the community.
