An awareness programme on ill-effects of tobacco consumption organized by National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) was held on October at Livingstone foundation Higher Secondary School, Dimapur with Dr. Ritu Thurr Dy. CMD Dimapur as the main speaker.
In a press release issued by Probhat Mandal, Principal LFHSS said that it was an eye opener for many students to know the fact of diseases caused due to the consumption of tobacco products.
Main speaker for the programme Dr. Ritu Thurr highlighted on the health hazards of tobacco consumption.
He further explained about the forms of tobacco uses and the impact of smoking tobacco in homes and public places leading to number of cases in health deformities of the children and other physical illness.
The speaker also encouraged the students to take initiatives in making schools campus smoke and tobacco free zone.
Further Dr. Ritu encouraged the students to create awareness about side effects of smoking tobacco and to pass on the message to parents, family members and their surroundings. Others subject specialists for the programme included Sanui, psychologist National Tobacco Control Programme, Aomar Data manager and H, Chishi social worker National Tobacco Control Programme.
Meanwhile, district level tobacco awareness campaign was conducted in 14 schools in Kohima town led by Dr. Chisi, Dy director Health and family welfare and Dr Astingla Dist Nodal officer (NCTP) under CMO Kohima. Dr Ralte, CMO appreciated the school authorities for their active cooperation with the department and also reaching out to the school children with the message of ‘No Tobacco in Schools’
