‘A Bridge Too Far’, Sir Richard Attenborough’s World War II film is about the failed attempts of Allied forces in capturing German bridges to put an early end to the war. The Dikhu bridge in Mokokchung district linking the NH 155 with Tuensang and Zunheboto districts has not brought an end to neglect. Like the saying, a picture is worth a thousand words, the dilapidated condition of Dikhu bridge speaks volumes about the utter neglect despite huge funds being spent on roads and bridges in the state. Drivers have to carry one or two wooden planks so as to enable the vehicles precariously cross the bridge. It may be pointed that the bridge serves as a major link for the entire Tuensang district, Surhoto range and following villages under Mokokchung district- Longsa, Moalenden, Chubayimkum and Meyilong. The report card of all the thrust programmes on road connectivity in the state indicate that development is restricted to Dimapur and Kohima. The people perhaps need to question their elected representatives.
