Peren district VDB conference was held on October 15 at Peren Town Hall with chief guest Parliamentary Secretary RD & REPA, S. Pangnyu Phom as the chief guest.
The parliamentary secretary highlighting on the NREGA scheme said it was meant for the villagers and job card holders and that political influence and interference from any organizations should not be allowed. He also encouraged each and every VDB to build Rain Water Harvesting Tanks and include it under NREGA in the village development plan as an alternative and also as a healthy way of preservation of water for consumption and use. He also stressed on creation of assets under G.I.A scheme for the economic sustenance of VDBs and benefit of the villagers. Encouraging VDBs to continue with their commendable performance in Peren Disrict, to implement the schemes of the department judiciously, Pangnyu urged to cooperate with department officials and also cautioned them against misuse of funds meant for the villagers.
Further, having observed the vast natural resource of the district Pangnyu discouraged the random hunting and extermination of the wildlife and expressed hope that people of Peren district would inculcate culture of preservation and conservation of wildlife for their future generation.
Director RD Metsubo Jamir highlighted on the schemes implemented by rural development department. He cautioned VDBs not to ignore the State sponsored schemes while implementing the Central sponsored schemes which were for a certain fixed period only and that the state sponsored schemes were as important as the central schemes but was often overshadowed by central schemes. He also gave a few insights of the steps and proposals taken up by the department with the government for improving the functioning of VDBs and implementing the schemes.
Also speaking at the conference, Director SIRD Limasenla, gave a brief introduction of the activities of the department and the trainings conducted by SIRD. She emphasized on the role of women in the development of the village and the society and encouraged the women members present to be more proactive and to take part in the development activities as their participation was equally important along side the men.
Highlights of the programme included discussions among the participants. Participants expressed gratitude to the parliamentary secretary and department officers adding it was a rare occasion for officers’ to visit the district. Earlier, the programme was chaired by Kelei Zeliang, project director DRDA Peren.
300 participants including Peren VDB secretaries, Village Council Chairman and women members attended the programme.
