Altogether six NSCN (K) activists were apprehended during the last 24 hours by the Assam Rifles in Dimapur and Mon. A defence statement said that on October 16 an alert MVCP of 24 AR established near Plaza Bakery intercepted a Maruti van trying to evade the security dragnet and apprehended two NSCN (K) activists. Two pistols, several live rounds besides mobile phone and cash were recovered from the possession of the activists who were later handed over to the East Police Station, Dimapur. On October 17, four NSCN (K) activists were apprehended by the 37 AR personnel at Shengha Mokok area under Mon district following a special patrol launched in the wake of reports of movement of activists trying to sneak into Mon from Myanmar. The defence statement said the activists were under interrogation when last reports came in. It said the Assam Rifles continued to dominate all sensitive areas including border towns to thwart any attempts by underground activists to carryout trans-border movement or extortion activities within built up areas. The release maintained that strict surveillance backed up by stepped up operations were being resorted to ensure peace and security.
