A two- day cultural extravaganza was organized by Government High School Peren on October 7 and 8 on the theme ‘Know Oneself’. Folk songs, dance wrestling, traditional dress, drama painting, essay competition, extempore speech, showcasing of traditional Naga shawls, ‘langtas’, among others were the main highlights of the programme. The main theme exposed the cultural heritage of Zeliangs.
Deputy Commissioner Peren Khrienuo C Mehta graced the inaugural function as chief guest and expressed appreciation to the headmaster in involving the young students in such activities and imbibing them with values of culture. SDO (C) Peren T Gregory also exhorted the students to fight against evil and vices in society.
In his welcome address headmaster of the School Suipeung Iheliung affirmed that cultural programme was organized for the benefit of students as with advancement of science the traditional values were fast diminishing and expressed happiness that students had taken up culture with all seriousness. The inaugural function was chaired by Joseph Vikietuo Liezietsu, assistant teacher while the invocation prayer was pronounced by Joseph Gangmei, assistant teacher.
