Contrary to 100% electrification claimed by Nagaland government, 30- 40 % of villages under Mon district do not have electricity supply at present. Most of the villages in bordering and exterior areas still lack electricity. The main reason for unavailability of electricity in these villages is shortage of ‘transformer’. Many villagers claim to have sent the transformer (provided to their respective villages), for repair, some as far as 1994-95, but is yet to be replaced. Any tourist or passerby will notice tangled electric wires dangling from electric post at many places, but without current. To mention some of the villages: Zangkham under Tizit sub-division - since 1992, though they claimed to have cleared the bill, the village is yet to be provided with electricity; Yuching hardly 20 kms away from Mon Town has been reeling under darkness since 2006; Longwa, the proposed international Trade centre has no electricity, except for the solar lightings provided by the Assam Riffles; Nokzang, under Tizit sub-division; Wangla, under Tizit sub-division; Tang; Hongphoi; Pukha; Sheanghah wamsha…etc. and many more are yet to be provided with electricity. In Tobu area also the villages including Tamkong, Tobu, Monyakshu, Peshao, Shamnyu, Yongkhao, Shinnyu and the like is reeling under darkness due to lack of transformer. The area is supposedly being provided electricity from Telangsao mini hydro project.
