Conserving ecology in Chuchuyimpang

Conservation of environment and ecology has taken a big leap here in Chuchuyimpang village under Mokokchung district as the village have taken initiatives to save environment by adopting various ways and means. The project of conservation and preservation of the environment is being spearheaded a group of village called ‘Lanu Zunga’. Lanu Zunga organized a seminar titled ‘Our Environment, Our Future’ where imminent personalities from the field participated at the seminar as resource persons and also as guest. Topics for the seminar included ‘Bio-diversity and Ecological Stability’, ‘Conservation through people’s participation’, ‘Bio-diversity, a wealth for the people’ and ‘Our Environment, Our Future’. Resource persons for the seminar included Dr, S. Alem Jamir Lect. FAC, Dr. Neizo Puro Lect. NU and Tia Mollier Lect. FAC. The seminar dwelt at length on ways to preserve and protect the environment, its impact on lives of the people and environment protection as a global movement etc. It is worthy to be mentioned here that earlier on two occasions, Lanu Zunga initiated a project of preservation by releasing hundreds of local breed chicken and various breeds of rabbit including Grey gaint, New Zealand White & Russian Chinchilla breeds. These animals were released in May and June this year at Kongyongpang and Suralenden forests respectively. It has been reported that the earlier projects have been successful as the released animals were being adapted quickly to the new environment and that through these previous two projects, lot of awareness have been generated amongst the people, particularly the villagers.
