A three days training on child labour for trainers is underway at Tourist Lodge with more than 40 trainers from Dimapur attending the training.
In the inaugural programme, Director, VV Giri National Labour Institute, Noida, V P Yajurvedi in his inaugural speech highlighted the problems of child labour and stated the problem was well recognized and tackled at various levels. He also elaborated on the salient features of the National Child Labour Policy which was adopted in 1987. Explaining about the National Child Labour Project (NLCP), the director informed that initially these projects were basically industry specific and aimed at rehabilitating children working in traditional labour endemic industries.
Earlier, Project Officer, Directorate of labour, Yanger Aier, gave the welcome speech while the presidential address was delivered by Commissioner and Secretary R Binchilo Thong IAS. Joint Labour Commissioner (HOD), E Picho Ngullie gave the keynote address of the training. Resource person for the training is Dr. Helem R. Sekar.
It may be mentioned that the major activities under the NLCP project are survey to identify children working in hazardous occupations and withdrawal and rehabilitations through special schools. The children who are enrolled are provided formal/non-formal education, vocational training, supplementary nutrition, stipend, regular health check-ups etc.
