Autonomous State Demand Committee (P) along with its fraternal organizations including CPI (ML), KSA and KNCA on Wednesday placed a combined memorandum to the Union Home Minister of India. The committees demanded for an immediate formation of the proposed autonomous state under the provision of article 244 (A) of the Indian Constitution for Karbi Anglong and NC Hills. The memo was handed over to the Deputy Commissioner, Karbi Anglong by the party leaders for onwards transmission. The joint memorandum was signed by Mojari Hanse, Selawar Bey, Kajek Tokbipi, Among Engti and Daniel Teron. It viewed that it had become imperative to confer autonomous statehood status to the people of Karbi Anglong for their overall progress and development and non-implementation of the same had created “immense agonies and anxiety” among the tribal people of the two districts. The memo further pointed out that the present Assam Government was trying to “take back” whatever autonomy that had been achieved in the most hard earned methods over the years.
