The importance of breast feeding, fulfilling the goals of child development and nutritional growth, and implementing the Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) for good health of mother and child was stressed at the ICDS programme held across the district. CDPO Kohima under Social Welfare Department on Thursday marked the Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) week at Kohima. The programme was attended by CDPO Kohima (U) Neingusalie, officials of the department, Anganwadi workers, parents and children.
CDPO Neingusalie called upon the gathering to renew their commitment towards successful implementation of ICDS projects. He urged all to join hands to fulfill the goals of child development and nutritional growth. Highlighting the objectives of the ICDS project, Neingusalie said that ICDS was a 100% centrally sponsored scheme that looked after the nutritional health of children from 0-6 years, expected or nursing mothers, young mothers, adolescents. He apprised the gathering that the scheme was to improve nutritional and health standard of mother and child, give proper psychological development.
Meanwhile, ICDS week was also observed in Medziphema on November 18 at the Anganwadi centre 9 Mezoma Khel, Medziphema. Topic on ‘breast feeding’ was dwelt by supervisor Sentimenla, topic on ICDS was highlighted by CDPO Asangla Jamir. Highlight of the programme included special songs by Anganwadi children, outdoor games and baby show. The programme was attended by Medziphema Town Council chairman and councilors, lactating mothers and adolescent girls.
In Dimapur Integrated Child Development service week under Social Welfare Department was observed at Changtongya town on November 19, organised by Child Development Project Officer office under ICDS Project Changtongya at Longpangtsung Ward Anganwadi centre.
Speaking on the occasion Toshimeren Longkumer, Town Council member encouraged all Anganwadi workers and helpers to take up the challenge in taking care of the child to provide and facilitate in promoting health of a child. Head DB Zülu also spoke on the occasion. Prize for the best Anganwadi worker were given to Shilulemla, Changtongya town. Town council members, DBs, Anganwadi workers, helpers, pregnant women, children along with their parents attended the programme.
The programme was chaired by Mayala, supervisor during which she highlighted the significance of various schemes and projects under ICDS and its objectives in making a difference in the life of children and pregnant and lactating mother.
ICDS week was also celebrated at Kubolong on November 18 organized by CDPO and his staff. EAC Kubolong, T. Lankonsen Tsanglao and staff of various departments attended the programme. Speaking on the occasion, the EAC urged the parents to mould their children properly by providing them the right atmosphere at home and outside. The programme was marked by Scripture reading and singing by the children.
ICDS week was observed under Wokha district on November 17 at Bhandari Lotha Eloe Hoho Hall with T.Y. Peter Yanthan, supervisor as chairman of the function. According to a press note, the programme started with a brief introduction of ICDS week by K. Hoshepu, CDPO Bhandari who highlighted the different services and activities of the ICDS and said that it included supplementary nutrition referral services, health check-up, immunization services and non formal pre-school education. Further, he stressed on the importance of community participation in the ICDS services, such as through the Anganwadi board which has been set up in all the Anganwadi centres in Nagaland.
The highlights of the programme included song by the Anganwadi children, special song by the A/workers/helpers, and voluntary speech by Elan Odyuo, chairman Lotha Hoho Bhandari Town and Nkhyingo Ovung, GB. Meanwhile, the celebration was attended by Anganwadi children, A/workers/helpers, sector GBs and chairman of Bhandari Town.
