Manipur relaxes PAP on NH-39, 53

Manipur government has relaxed some restrictions to the entry of foreign tourists possessing Protected Area Permit (PAP) by allowing them entry by road as well. More places have also been allowed to visit, official of the state home department said Friday. Foreign tourists were allowed to enter Manipur only by Air from Kolkata. Apart from this, the places they can visit were also restricted only at Loktak Lake, Imphal, Moirang INA Memorial, Keibul Lamjao Deer Sanctuary, Waithou Lake and Khongjom War Memorial. A notification giving more relaxation to the visit of the foreigners in Manipur was issued by the state home department after the Union ministry of home affairs revised its guidelines with regard to the issue of PAP. In addition to Air from Kolkata, foreign tourists can now enter by road through Dimapur-Kohima-Imphal section of the NH-39 and Silcher-Jiribam-Imphal section of NH-53. More areas have also been permitted to visit but with escorts by recognized travel agents. As per the notification issued today, foreign tourist can travel, Imphal-Bishnupur-Phubala-Sendra-Keibul Lamjao-Imphal, Imphal-Moirang Lake-Keibul Lamjao-Churachandpur-Khuga-Imphal, Imphal-Litan-Ukhrul-Siroy-Sangsak-Imphal, Imphal-Thoubal-Waithou Lake-Khongjom-Kakching-Thongjao-Waikhong-Sugnu-Imphal, Imphal-Khonghampat-Kanglatombi-Kangpokpi-Senapati-Karong-Mao Gate-Imphal and Imphal-Noneh-Khongsang-Nungba-Jiribam-Imphal. The issued of PAP to visiting foreign tourists in a group of two or more persons with a recognized travel agent who would act as an escort of the group upto a maximum period of 30 days. The period of issued of PAP to foreigners married to Indian nationals belonging to Manipur for visit the state on tourists visa has also been extended. They can now stay for a maximum of 90 days.
