The 10th prison officers’ conference was held on November 10 at Police Conference Hall, Chumukedima. The chief guest for the event was parliamentary secretary prison, HG, F&ES, Er. W. Kithan. The chief guest in his key note address stated that he was pleased with the executives of the department and hope they would perform better “correctional officers”.
In a press note issued by superintendent of jails, Hq Kohima, K. Thirah, the chief guest desired that each prison officers’ should be responsible in reforming the prisoners lodged under their custody and that who have been reformed should contribute toward peace and prosperity of the land.
“Rule of law should be made to prevail in the minds of inmates while in custody”, he stated before adding that the law breakers also required “humane treatment” and acknowledge “Human Rights” as custodial duties were propagated for the convicts.
The parliamentary secretary also declared that promotion order would be published very soon, and a Women Jail and NSA detention cell would be arranged depending on the funds.
“By this employment avenue will be opened and promotion prospect will be there fro serving officer and staff”, he added. Parliamentary Secretary complimented executive and non-executive staff and officer of prison department in his concluding address.
Superintendent of Jails, K. Thirah, chaired the function, while welcome address was delivered by Avi Kechu AIG Central Jail, Dimapur, short speech by O. Alem, IPS, DG prisons, HG & CD and vote of thanks by jailor, K. Khushito.
The other highlights of the day included ‘Because Hour’ after a lunch break where officers discussed on the issue of the prison inmates, the staff welfare and improvement of general administration of the department.
