A dharna before the Parliament House, New Delhi has been called by All India Regional Rural Bank Employees Association (AIRBA) on December 8 from 10 and to 3 pm. However the rural banks will function normally.
Office bearers of AIRBA informed this at a press conference held at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, on Saturday. The association’ s general secretary Dilip Kumar Mukherjee said that the dharna (sit in protest) was organized in order to demand for massive branch expansion of regional rural banks in untapped areas along with revision of manpower policy.
“We are ready to reach out to all the rural people but along with it enough manpower should be there” he asserted.
While at the same time he also stressed on regular promotion to all cadres. Protesting against the new policy of RBI allowing any bank, excluding rural banks, to open their branch at any place, was unfair on the part of the government policy to allow such thing to take place, he said. The AIRBA has also called for de-linking of sponsor public sector undertaking (PSU) banks from its funding.
It may be mentioned that the Regional Rural Bank has been set up with the aim to reach the rural mass with 50 percent funding from the Central government, 35 percent from PSU banks such as SBI, UBI etc and 15 percent by respective state governments.
Further the employees even don’t receive their pensions like their counterparts in the banking industry.
