Four arrested for trafficking

Women Cell personnel along with the residents of East Block on Saturday caught four persons including three females for trafficking of three minor girls. According to police sources, two of the accused-Parvina Begum (22) and Asabuddin (25) were apprehended by the residents of East Block and handed over to police. Later based on their confessions, women cell personnel arrested Rofulla Begum (40) and Asmina Begum (24) from their homes around 5. 30 pm. On interrogation, they confessed to having picked three minor girls identified as Farida from Toto colony, Hasbera from Railway colony and Hafiza from East block on different occasions and later took them to Tezpur. From Tezpur, the minor girls were taken to Pune by train and later sold to one lady identified as Modi Tamang for Rs 1 lakh. They also disclosed that the main culprit behind the racket named was Umar Farukkh (30), the husband of Parvina begum, who has been trafficking minor girls for the past 10 to 15 years with the help of his other two friends identified as Aftab (35) and Pinto (30). The main accused Umar Farukkh paid Rs 9000 to Asabuddin, husband of Asmina Begum and Rs.4000 to his wife for handling the expenses. Police recovered Rs.12,000 from the accused persons. The trio –Umar Farukh, Aftab and Pinto- were still absconding at the time of filing this report.
