Piphema Middle English School, one of the first school in Chakhroma area was established in the year 1949 with Vikieyie-u Chalieu as its first headmaster. Vikieyie-u served from 1949 till his retirement in 1985. Talking to Nagaland Post at his residence at Piphema Monday, Vikieyie-u Chalieu expressed personal satisfaction for having imparted basic education as head master and teacher for the last 36 years. During the forties, the school provided education for those from Chakhroma. Many prominent citizens and scholars from the area are the products of the school. Some of the well-known alumni include retired additional secretary to the government of Nagaland N.Z. Makhritsu, the first matriculate from the school and former minister Rokoneicha to name some. Vikieyie-u son of Late Zhawhelhou Chalieu was born in 1923 as per Tsiepama Village Christian Golden Jubilee Souvenir. He was a brilliant student who was awarded stipend from class 2 to 10 for securing first position in the entrance exam conducted under Naga Hills from Kohima. Chalieu has two significant achievements to his credit: he is the first matriculate in Chakhroma area and he was also the first Christian from Tsiepama village, baptized on September 26, 1943 at Kohima Mission Chapel by Reverend Neisier. After retirement he served as Pastor Piphema ‘A’ Baptist Church for some years.
