Naga Students Federation (NSF) has once again reminded the state government that the Nagaland Retirement from Public Employment act 209 has to be strictly implemented. A joint press statement issued by the NSF president Mutsikhoyo Yhobu and general secretary O Wati Jamir stated that it was shocking to hear of unhealthy developments as some government employees ignoring the Retirement act and extending their service in office which implied that some vested interests were working against the unemployed youth of the state. The Federation stated that it had sacrificed ceaselessly against all odds for interest of the society and the future generations in taking up the superannuation issue and thus it has had ‘enough of the gimmicks’ created by senior government employees as the fate of thousands of unemployed cannot be decided overshadowed by these individuals with “powerful backing”. All employees who attain the maximum length of service have to retire as per the chief secretary’s notification with effect from October 31 2009, in this regard the Federation called upon the chief minister, his cabinet colleagues and parliamentary secretaries stating that the Federation would not be ‘sitting duck’ if the event of extension service of retired government employees.
