1st Ao fiction novel ‘Mulungnok’ released

A new era in history of Ao literature was witnessed this evening as the first fiction novel in Ao language with ISBN 978-81-8465-079-2 (International Standard Book Number) was released. The novel titled ‘Mulungnok’ literally translates as ‘Heartthrob’ into English is authored by T. Senka Ao, former Editor of Ao Milen. This novel is the first to be numbered in ISBN among the hundreds of Ao books, novels and writings ever published. The novel was released during the opening night of the ABAM (Ao Baptist Churches Association) Central Council at Impur by Rev. C. Walu Walling, Literature Secretary ABAM this evening. The author dedicated the novel in memory of his departed friend K. Mayanger who went towards the East for Naga’s Independence but never returned. The novel has also got the approval of the Ao Senden Literature Board and the foreword in the book was written by Prof. Dr. Temsula Ao, Dean School of Humanatics and Education NEHU Shillong. The novel deals with contemporary social life of Ao Nagas. Some portions of the novel are currently in use in schools in Cl X and XII and in ICSE affiliated schools in Mokokchung. Some more portions of the novel have also been earmarked to be used in Post Graduate levels. T. Senka Ao disclosed that it took him 10 years to complete the novel and added that there were plans for more books to be published in future. A total of 3000 copies of the novel have been published and is priced at Rs. 220/- per copy. The author has requested all to read the book and also welcomed criticism.
