The weeklong special handloom expo 2009 Tseminyu funded by Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles, government of India was inaugurated on November 27 at Tseminyu town with Kegweanye Lorin as the chief guest. During his speech he stressed on maintenance of various Rengma customs and handloom products by exploring their intricate handiworks of motive patterns and designs by enhancing quality products.
Akheto, Functional Manager, Sub-DIC, Tseminyu highlighted that the main aim of the expo was to showcase richness of the indigenous products of the people and also to expose talents and facilities by maintaining standards and quality to meet the demands of the people.
25 stalls, set up mostly by SHGs were put up showcasing handloom products, handicrafts, textile products, bamboo and wooden handicraft, dried flowers and other products produced under the aegis of the Industries & Commerce Department. Representatives of Manipur state also put up four stalls that showcased their handlooms, handy tools and water craft products.
