NPF lauds NLA decision on JPC

The Nagaland Peoples’ Front on Saturday lauded the decision of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to institute a Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Naga political issue and resolved to extend full support to the Committee in the greater interest of the Naga people. This was resolved as part of the seven point resolution adopted during the NPF party’s 5th General Convention held at the Multi-purpose Hall, Indira Gandhi Stadium here Saturday. It also appreciated and endorsed the decision of the state government to use the slogan “Nagaland-land of festivals” and “Hornbill Festival- festival of festivals” which was in continuation of its earlier policy of introducing Mithun as the state logo. The NPF also expressed appreciation to the government of India, particularly the prime minister and home minister for their renewed commitment towards finding a permanent solution to the “Indo-Naga” political problem. It urged the negotiating parties to expedite the talks in order to bring a lasting peace through political solution which would be honorable and acceptable to the people. The party also reiterated it commitment of playing the role of active facilitator in order to create a congenial atmosphere for the peace process to be on the right track. It further appreciated the commitment and sincerity of the underground groups towards peace, reconciliation and understanding in signing the covenant of reconciliation. The NPF also appreciated the Forum for Naga Reconciliation, Church and civil societies which facilitated the national workers and underground groups to sign the Covenant of Reconciliation and agreeing for cessation of all hostilities against each other. The NPF appreciated the Political Affairs Committee for their efforts in making the Naga Consultative Meet held from March 5-7 earlier this year a success and all the section of the society, mass based organizations, NGOs, Churches, political parties and leaders who attended the meet and made it a historic success. Further, it welcomed the merger of the erstwhile State BJP with the NPF which had consolidated the party and strengthened the state government.
