RBI Dy Governor on three-day visit to state

Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Shyamala Gopinath, upon arrival at the Dimapur Airport on Sunday said her visit was a part of the centenary celebrations of the RBI and also with the objective of letting the people know what reserve bank meant to a common man. Shyamala, who is on a three-day visit to the state said “this year although we could not have conferences and seminars but a very unique feature of our celebration is to go out and reach out to the people.” Shyamala said she would visit few ‘unbanked’ villages like Khonoma along with bank officials and inform them about the services offered by the banks. When asked about the importance of Nagaland in the context of RBI, the deputy governor said that the state along with the entire NE region was very important to the RBI and a committee was already coming up with actionable plans owing to its unique features. Shyamala would be inaugurating the Financial Outreach Camp on Monday at Khonoma village, Kohima and RBI’s Pavilion at Hornbill Festival, Kisama on Tuesday.
