Civilian injured in Manipur blast

A civilian was injured and a shop badly damaged when a bomb believed to be hurled towards as security convoy went off on the roadside at Sagolband Moirang Leirak, Imphal on NH-53 today at about 12.30 pm. As convoys of CRPF and Assam Rifles pass the areas around that time, it was believed that it targeted to the security forces but missed. People nearby at the time of blast could not ascertain from which direction the bomb was lobbed. It exploded on the roadside causing splinter injury to a pedestrian identified as Laishram Premjit (25) son of Gune of Kumbi village presently residing at Sagolband Bijoygovinda. The glass pane of a shop dealing with mobile phones was also shattered by the blast but luckily the shop Laitongjam Noren, who was inside the shop at the time, escaped unhurt. Police who rushed to the area discovered lever of Chinese made hand grenade. Today’s blast incident was the third time in the recent time in crowded Imphal. On November 3 night, a bomb targeted to a security convoy exploded in front of Sangai Express office just after the security convoy passed injuring to five civilians including a staff of a local daily “matamgi Yakairol” On November 19 last, another bomb hurled at a security convoy exploded at Singjamei Bazar on the stretch of the Imphal-Moreh section of the NH-39 inflicting injuries to three AR personnel and two innocent women. Meanwhile, in other unrelated incidents, police seized two hand grenades deposited by suspected militants in the houses of the individuals in Bishnupur and Thoubal districts, police report said. One of the bombs was found at the house of a businessman identified as T Rajen dealing with transport of dry fish from Assam at Utlou under Nambol police station while the other was found at a shop at Khongjom Bazar in Thoubal district.
