In a social venture to protect the environment, 83 years old renowned environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna from Uttarakhand on Tuesday called upon all people to protect and preserve the scenic beauty of the Himalayas, preserve water and thereby save lives. Sunderlal Bahuguna was accompanied by his team of environmentalists for the ‘Save Himalaya, Save Water, Save Lives’ campaign.
Stating that water scarcity was due to global warming, Bahuguna said that mountains should be protected saying they were “water towers of human kind”. He asserted that there should be a Himalaya Policy, a policy to preserve the natural vegetation of the Himalayan regions.
He called upon the need to plant more tress and preserve natural beauty of the Himalaya region. A freedom fighter, Sunderlal Bahuguna stated that the country should be “full of living water, good fruit and greenery everywhere”, quoting from “Vande Mataram”.
MLA of Uttarakhand, Kishore Upadhyaya, who was accompanied the environmentalist said as a part of the campaign, the team have been traveling to water producing states, water consuming states in India and other neighbouring countries like Myanmar, Bangladesh.
