The Meghalaya government has decided to launch traffic mobile to ease the growing traffic congestion here in the state capital. “We have decided to purchase two wheelers instead of four wheelers for our traffic personnel to control traffic snarls,” Chief Minister DD Lapang said. “I have instructed the Home department to prepare a proposal for purchasing of two wheelers,” he told reporters after chairing a high-level meeting on the unabated traffic chaos in Shillong and National Highway – 40 (Shillong-Gauhati road). He said the proposed traffic mobile would allow traffic personnel to move faster and regulate the traffic in a more efficient manner. “At many of times people has missed the flights and job seekers failed to attend interviews due to these traffic snarls,” the Chief Minister said. Apart from traffic mobiles, Lapang said that the government has decided to create a full fledged post of superintendent of police in the traffic department to help ease the traffic congestion. “The government is also planning to build flyover to ease traffic congestion,” the Chief Minister said.
