As part of a protest against national terrorism, members of Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) and the All India Student’s Association (AISA), Karbi Anglong unit, torched the effigy of Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram on Wednesday. Students affiliated to the organizations carried their protest against the alleged atrocities meted towards common people by security forces in the pretext of curbing Maoist rebels. Members of the two students’ body mentioned that security agencies have made it a routine habit to entangle and associate the Maoist revolution with the activities of each and every radical group proactive in India. Carping the Central government, KSA and AISA leaders singled out the “operation Green hunt” launched by Security forces primarily to annihilate Maoist militants as a deliberate ploy to create nation wise terror. Both the organizations condemned the State and the Central government for failing to address the demands of various radical outfits active in Karbi Anglong politically. “Instead of solving the vexed insurgency issue in a peaceful opinionated manner, government has let loose its security forces to inflict death penalty on innocent Karbi youths and at the same time molest and outrage the dignity of tribal girls at will” the AISA leaders said. The student bodies demanded immediate withdrawal of the special arms forces empowerment act of 1980 and repealing of all such ‘Black laws’ formulated to dominate common people for seeking their democratic rights.
