Physical verification of ILP holders at Mon Town Council Hall, headed by SDO Civil (I) Mon HQ detected 35 more ILP immigrants on Thursday bringing the total number of immigrants to 72 who were later handed over to the police. It may be mentioned that on November 9, 37 ILP defaulters were deported from Mon Town. Out of 35 ILP defaulters, 34 were from Karimganj district and one from Cachar district. When contacted, TB Chiba, Secretary ILP, Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) confirmed that verification would continue till the entire district was cleared of illegal immigrants. It may be mentioned that on November 5 the District Level Committee on ILP had held a meeting at DC Conference Hall, under the chairmanship of Chumremo Odyuo, ADC Mon HQ, wherein the following resolution were taken. The names of ILP holders from the district of Karimganj, Nowgoan, Cachar and Halikandi of Assam state whose antecedents have been verified by the respective Deputy Commissioners of those districts of Assam state totaling to 139 have been received by office of deputy commissioner, Mon. Therefore, it has decided to accept only 139 cases for consideration. The rest of the IPL holders whose verification has not been received till date will be considered as illegal immigrants and will be deported from Mon district and no fresh IPL will be issued for applicants from these four districts of Assam state. Regarding non Nagas marrying Konyak women and for non- possession of ILP citing opting Konyak citizenship, it has decided that since it was under the purview of customary law of Konyak Naga, this issue was forwarded to the Konyak Union for decision. Representatives of KSU will be visiting all administrative headquarters of Mon district in order to assist the sub-divisional level committee on IPL while conducting verification drive in their respective sub-divisional headquarter. Restriction has also been imposed on the group and people have been asked to report to District Level Committee, ILP for necessary action.
