Echoing sentiments similar to land owners of four villages including Sovima, Tenyiphie, Virazouma and Chumukedima with regard to delay in land compensation to affected land owners, the Thahekhu village on Thursday urged railway department to make necessary decision within November 2009, failing which the land owners would resume development works within the surveyed land. “The land for the proposed project was surveyed in the month of February 2009 and accordingly all development works on those lands have since disconnected in order to facilitate fast progress of the project,” Thahekhu village council (TVC) chairman Yekheto Ayemi, secretary Heloto Anche, head GB Hukiye Yeptho and GB Tovito Aye, said in a note, and added that despite the lapse of so many months the department responsible has failed to make the compensation “for reason best known to them.” Pointing out that their land was both a developed and residential land which can not be kept unattended for such a long period of time, the Thahekhu village said it would stick to the rate that they had submitted to district administration. Urging railway department to make necessary decision within November 2009, the signatories said: “After resumption of the development works by the land owners on their respective lands, the village authorities shall not allow the railway line to pass through the village.” It was decided in a meeting held February 12 last involving Thahekhu village GBs, village council and the land owners, the noted stated.
