Maj Gen Sandeep Singh has assumed command and took over the reigns of Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) from his predecessor Maj Gen J P Nehra December 18.
On assuming command, the new IGAR (North) has conveyed his assurance to the Nagas that Assam Rifles would continue to strive to usher in an era of peace and security in Nagaland, a defence release said today.
Expressing his deep respect for Naga Society he conveyed his best wishes to all and expressed hope to see rapid progress in all spheres under the umbrella of peace.
According to a defence release, Maj Gen Sandeep has a rich and illustrious military career with a varied experience of serving in counter insurgency and high altitude areas during his military service spanning over 33 yrs. Prior to his new appointment, Maj Gen Singh was posted at Integrated Headquarter (IHQ) ministry of defence, SD Directorate Army headquarters, New Delhi.
Meanwhile, Gen JP Nehra has been deputed as Additional Director General of Assam Rifles in Shillong. General Nehra also conveyed his best wishes to the people of Nagaland stating that, he hoped and wished to see everlasting peace and prosperity settled down in this beautiful land of the Nagas.
