Gas stations in Manipur were closed on Tuesday in protest against attacks by militants allegedly in connection with monetary demands. Suspected militants launched a bomb attack at NRL oil pump at Khurai Thangjam Leikai in Imphal east district on December 15 but the bomb failed to explode. Locals nearby the station strongly protested the attack considering the disaster that could have been occurred if the bomb had exploded. Consequently, the All Manipur Petroleum Products Association, Imphal took the decision to close down all petrol pumps across the state to register strong protest against the act of the militants which according to them related with huge unbearable monetary demand on them. The body also demanded assurance from militant groups not to repeat such attacks which could cause huge tragedy not only to properties but to the people as well. “If militants groups fail to give the assurances, petrol pumps will be closed down indefinitely from January 5 next year,” the president of the All Manipur Petroleum Product Association said.
