HNLC militants kill exporter

Suspected Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militants today gunned down a prominent businessman and critically injured his wife in Pomshutia village along the Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya. Raja Khongsit, a coal exporter from Meghalaya to Bangladesh succumbed to his bullet injuries while he was on his way to the hospital here. However, his wife M Massar is in a critical condition and undergoing treatment here at the Woodland hospital. Superintendent of Police Claudia A Lyngwa said that the incident occurred at around 0530 hours when a group of four HNLC militants entered the house and shot him point blank. The militants then shot his wife in the bedroom and fled the scene. The police recovered three 9mm empty shells from the scene of the crime. “We are still investigating into the crime to find out the exact cause,” Lyngwa said, while refusing to divulge further details. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case and a massive hunt is on by the police to nab the militants.
