Naga women memo to Governor

A delegation of Naga women led by the Nagaland Women Commission (NWC) met Nagaland governor, Nikhil Kumar at Raj Bhavan, Kohima and submitted a representation on the resolutions adopted on the women reservation in town and municipal councils during the consultative meeting held on Tuesday. The delegation comprising of Naga Mothers’ Association officials and representatives from various women tribal hohos in the representation stressed that “the state government must take cognizance the constitutional provisions of Article 14, 15 and 16 and ensure the rights of women are protected by implementation of Reservation for women.” With the declaration of identified wards reserved for women in town and municipal councils, the delegation expressed confidence that the state government would protect the constitutional rights of women by holding the civic polls on schedule. During the interaction, the governor said he respected the sentiments of the women and also understood what the women want. He assured all possible help to uphold the constitution of the country. The women delegation later proceeded to the chief minister’s official bungalow to submit another representation. The delegation, however could not meet the chief minister as he was engaged in another meeting. The representation was then submitted at the chief minister’s residential office.
