NPCC, DCC Mkg celebrate 125 yrs of INC

To commemorate 125 years of Indian National Congress (INC), the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Monday organized a formal programme at Congress Bhavan, where officials of the PCC and prominent congress leaders attended the programme. On the occasion special programmes were also held in all districts. Meanwhile, a year long programme has been chalked out by the AICC to commemorate the 125 years of INC party, which was formed on December 28, 1885 under the pioneership and convenor, A O Hume, at Bombay. W C Banerjee was then elected the first president of the INC. It is worth mentioning that under the banner and active movement of the Congress party led by Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, India achieved independence on August 15, 1947. On the occasion the AICC has also constituted an organizing committee led by Sonia Gandhi, president AICC and Vice Chairman, A K Antony. Today Shrimati Gandhi also laid a foundation stone of new AICC building at Kotla Road, New Delhi as a mark of beginning of commemoration of the formation of the congress party. During a year long celebration, the congress will also observe the birthdays of some of the prominent congress leaders and Indian freedom fighters. During the celebrations, seminars and symposiums will be also conducted throughout the year under the theme, Past foundation, future vision. It may be mentioned here that Indian National Congress came into being in Nagaland on June 19, 1976 after the merger of the then Nagaland Nationalist Organisation (NNO) with the INC in the presence of D K Baruah, the then President of AICC and the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi during their visit to Mokokchung. With the merger Late Dr. Hokishe Sema was elected first president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) along with some of the prominent members of NNO. District Congress Committee (DCC), Mokokchung observed the all India Congress Foundation day on December 28 which was attended by District Congress Committee officials and their members, mahila, District Youth Congress Committee (DYCC), NSUI and Congress members from the district. According to a press note, the District Congress Committee president I. Nungkum Jamir highlighted the importance of Congress party and also said that the Indian National Congress (INC) party was the oldest party which got independence for India and therefore was important not only for the Congress party but also for all the people of India. The programme concluded with prayer and best wishes for Congress president, Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
