Only three out of the 34 employees of the State Bank of India, Bazaar Branch, Dimapur turned up for work on Monday subsequently affecting banking service partially. Altogether 31 employees including the Branch Manager of the SBI bazaar branch went on mass leave on Monday although the bank declared Christmas holiday only from December 24 to 27. Taking to this reporter, the Manager, Development Banking Division said no official holiday was declared for the employees. He however added that the bank had earlier declared December 28 as a holiday for the employees which was later cancelled and said that the employees might have been confused. In the customer service section, only three employees were present, leading to heavy rush in the deposits and withdrawal section, while many of the customers who came for other business transactions could not do the transactions due to non-availability of staff in the bank. Only the local deposits and withdrawal transactions were entertained on Monday. Most of the booths where many business transactions take place were empty even as other branches of the bank had a usual working day. One non-local businessman who came to make a demand draft said he was told by the bank employees that no staff was present to cater to his needs, after waiting for almost two hours. Another customer said the SBI staff at bazaar branch often treats the customers in a rude manner.
