MAT assessment to improve teaching

Mayangnocha Award Trust (MAT) has undertaken a school assessment program initially located within the headquarters of Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung on a voluntary basis under state government’s capacity building programme. All schools whether private or government can be assessed in a process that helps in construction of knowledge by students thereby helping in concept retention, makes their task worthwhile by motivating them, improves teaching by providing valid information for decision making and meets assessment criteria –improving learning. A joint release issued by MAT president Dr. Imnomanen Tzüdir and programme coordinator Er Moa Aier stated that the assessment was done by the institution itself in the form of a Self Evaluative Report (SER) based on certain criteria with a points system. 79 schools have submitted their desire to be assessed and materials have been dispatched to them, while some rural/semi- rural schools from outside specified areas have also been included in the program due to their request. The data submission consisted of two parts out of which most schools have completed the first part and are working on the SERs which have to submit before December 20 in order to be assessed and graded accordingly.
