Four killed in Manipur clash, AR post attacked

Four rebels have been killed in rival fights in two separate villages even as another clash between security forces and rebels was reported in the last 24-hour in remote hilly areas of the state. In one gunfight between cadres Kuki National Army-MC (KNA-MC) and United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) at Longpi village in interior Tamenglong district under Noney police station, three cadres of KNA (MC) were killed. The incident occurred Friday morning, police said. Three bullet riddled dead bodies were brought to RIMS morgue, Imphal today for official procedures. Families of the deceased who turned up at RIMS morgue said they were killed when UTLA cadres laid ambush to a group of KNA (MC). “We are informed that they were killed in ambush” one family member of a deceased said. All of them were senior cadres of the outfit, he added. Another gunfight between suspected cadres of People Liberation Army (PLA) and Kuki National Army (KNA) in Khoibu village in Chandel district was reported this afternoon at about 1.30 pm. In the clash one cadre of KNA killed while a PLA cadres captured by the rivals. Police when contacted said that they have reports of gunfight but could not confirm the casualties. Meanwhile, rebels suspected to be cadres of PLA attacked a post of the 34 Assam Rifles at Khoiripok under Karasom police station of Ukhrul district bordering with Thoubal district Friday evening at about 6.30 pm, a police report said. A source from the Assam Rifles confirmed the incident but said there was no casualty suffered by the AR. After the attack, troops of Assam Rifles launched a massive search operation in areas surrounding to search for the attackers.
