Forest department conducts workshop on medicinal plants

Two days workshop on sustainable development and management, value addition of the medicinal plants of Nagaland was organized by development of forest at forest office complex, Dimapur on December 9 and 10 where more than 300 participants from different departments including forest officers attended. The aim of the workshop was to work out prioritization and commercially important medicinal plant species for cultivation in the state. The workshop deliberated on different subjects by the resource persons including agro-forestry technology of medicinal plants, development and management of herbal gardens, management of Medicinal Plants Conservation Area (MCPA), and Prioritization and selection of species for cultivation in Nagaland by Dr. Haridasan, Joint Director, FRLHT, Bangalore. Potential and prospect of Medicinal plants in the North-East region and Medicinal Plants Diversity of Nagaland by Dr. Sapu Changkija, Head of Dept. Genetics & Plant Breeding SASARD, N.U. Value addition-harvesting/collection, drying, segregation, storage etc. by Dr. Vikash Rana, Scientist RFRI, Jorhat. Network Marketing of Medicinal Plants by Dr. Bipin Prakash Scientist from Bio-Resource, Assam. Preparation of medicines from Medicinal Plants and remedy for dogs and snakes bites by Rev. Dr. Fr. Godfrey, Director, Global Holistic Health Centre, Jalukie. In the workshop Member Secretary, State Medicinal Plants Board, Dr. D.K. Mero and Member from Nagaland Bio-Resource Mission C. Jamir has also presented activities about medicinal plants from their department/mission.
