With the political crisis in Andhra Pradesh deepening, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s visit to Meghalaya has been postponed to the second week of January. “New dates are being finalised and Ms Gandhi’s visit to Shillong will now take place in the second week of January,” Congress Working Committee member Luizinho Faleiro said. He said the Congress president cancelled her visit to Shillong mainly due to the political crisis in Andhra Pradesh. Gandhi’s scheduled visit to Shillong was supposed between December 14 or 16 to inaugurate the long-awaited “super-specialty” hospital North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute for Medical Sciences (NEIGRIMS). During her visit to the state, the Congress President is also scheduled to inaugurate the new campus of the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) University inside North Eastern Hills University campus. That apart, Gandhi was also scheduled to visit the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures (DBCIC), reputed to be largest anthropological museum in Asia.
