Reacting to the press statement issued by Kyong Region which was published in a local daily on January 13, the GPRN/NSCN Lotha Region stated that when entire Nagas including National workers were attempting to “build a bridge to walk on common ground”, a group of “misguided Lothas at Hebron camp calling themselves Kyong Region” continued to issue directives to Lotha People, “exhibiting criminal mentality and intent”. A press release issued by Zaremo John Lotha, Chairman, GPRN/NSCN, Lotha Region questioned “how could the Lothas allow these petty criminals to monitor public institutions that functions smoothly throughout the year? I say petty criminals because this gang, which issues dire press statements, is collecting tax at Merapani area along Assam-Nagaland border even on families rearing just a chicken! Ducks, dogs, goats, pigs, even a small amount of dried fish belonging to a poor fisherman heading towards the market is not spared”. The chairman has urged senior Lotha citizens, Lotha Hoho or student activists to ascertain the facts and stated that Joseph Lotha and Opong H, the “so-called Region CAO and Secretary “respectively should not be allowed to hold Wokha Town as well as Lotha people at ransom. Also clarifying to the accusation against him by the Kyong region, the chairman stated that “accusing me of collecting tax at gunpoint is unlikely since my job is not to collect tax”. The chairman appealed to the Lotha people to remain vigilant against “these elements” who are trying to keep the Lothas divided and confused.
