Authorities of the Agartala National Institute of Technology (NIT) have constituted an enquiry committee and served show-cause notice to two hostel wardens following the allegation of ragging a first-year student. Official sources here today said Poulami Dwivedi, hailing from Jabbalpur, was shifted to Agartala Government Medical College yesterday in critical condition as even after 24 hours she could not regain her sense completely. It was alleged that a group of third-year girls had been torturing their juniors in both college and hostels for past few days and the matter was informed to the institute, but nothing was done, rather the administrative inaction had encouraged them to continue torture, as reported by UNI. ‘’Poulami has personally lodged a written complaint with hostel warden and pursued for several times in early this week. Her mother has also spoken to the college authorities and sought their intervention, but nothing was done,’’ complained first-year students. Poulami had been assaulted several times on Wednesday and at evening she lost her sense, they charged. At late night she was shifted to the hospital. The incident rocked the institution and the administration. State Higher Education Minister Anil Sarkar said the department must sought complete report on the incident and asked the college authority to ensure security of the students.
