Minister for Planning & Coordination, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Evaluation and Parliamentary Affairs, T. R. Zeliang, Sunday said that India’s “Vision 2020’ for the North East should not remain in paper alone, but should become a reality, so that people of the north east become at par with the rest of the country as per the development vision laid in the document.
Addressing the 6th State Level Mimkut Festival of Kuki tribe at Athibung town as chief guest, T.R. Zeliang said that the much hyped ‘Look East policy’ had crossed more than 12 years but till date no even an inch of railway line was extended to the region and also air connectivity to connect North East and rest of India with south Asian countries which has tremendous trades potentials for the development of NE region.
“Look East Policy has cross 12 years but till date not even an inch of railway line has been extended or for that matter air connectivity under this policy. And now, new Vision 2020 document for NE has been drafted. This document should not remain in paper alone but become a reality”.
Zeliang was trying to remind the people that under this “Vision 2020” people of Nagaland along with the rest of north eastern states will enjoy maximum development like good roads, good communication and other infrastructures but people has to reciprocate with proper utilization of their rich natural resources.
“We have rich natural resource. Our land is fertile and agriculture and Horti productions are high, but if we cannot market these produces by taking advantage of roads and other facilities which is coming from all this policy”, he said asserting unless people made use of their produces development programme and policies would become futile.
T.R. Zeliang also said that people of Nagaland were now celebrating festivals peacefully and harmonious because of the peaceful situation in the state. He attributed the return of peace situation to the state as “God’s blessing”.
He also said that in the past several governments tried their best to bring peace in the state but could not do it successfully but itt was the DAN govt. under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio which could bring real peace in the state, he stated.
“The DAN government has managed to work out effective peace formula, under our slogan ‘Peace Development and Development for Peace”, T. R. Zeliang said.
He also asserted that unless Naga Political issue was settled or honourable solution brought about, there would not be real peace, and urged upon the people to pray for lasting peace in the state.
Mimkut Festival of Kuki tribe was celebrated with much pomp and gaiety with colourful folk dances and songs. Kukis from Assam and Manipur state and Zeliangrong community also partook in the festivals. Earlier, T. R. Zeliang, also unveiled the Mimkut Monolith.
