Murder suspect held

: In a breakthrough of the January 18 murder case of an unidentified Nepali, whose body was found at Rüziechaphi under Tsiesema village jurisdiction, the Tsiesema villagers today apprehended the one suspect and handed him over to police. According to source, the prime suspect identified as one Paukhamlum Rongmei, a father of three, went into hiding following the discovery of the body. The suspect, in his late 40s, was apprehended by alert Tsiesema village youth from a place near the murder site Thursday morning at around 9:30 a.m. Before the suspect was handed over to police, the village youth reportedly assaulted him during interrogation. The suspect also reportedly admitted to the crime . The accused reportedly disclosed that he and the deceased were drinking alcohol and after an argument ensued, he picked up a stone and hit the deceased on the head. It may be mentioned that an unidentified body, suspected to be from Nepali community, was discovered below NH-61 about 13 km from Kohima towards Tsiesema on January 18 last. The victim was suspected to have been hit with sharp object on the head and died on the spot on January 17 evening. A case was registered at Chiephobozou police station. The murder suspect went absconding. Meanwhile, police said that the suspect, who was brought to north police station Kohima, was admitted to a city Hospital for medical treatment for injuries received after he was assaulted by the youths during interrogation.
