New CLP leader vows to work for people

Leader of Congress Legislature Party, Tokheho Yepthomi has committed to work for uplift of downtrodden and neglected people. Addressing party workers of the PCC, DCC and ACCC and public of Aghunato assembly constituency on January 20, Yepthomi vowed to work with utmost sincerity adding , “ my commitment is for true and sincere leadership”. The newly appointed CLP leader also sought the support and cooperation of all senior Congress leaders in order to work together for the welfare of the people and to strengthen the party. He also thanked party legislators and the high command for reposing confidence on him to take up the mantle of the party and assured he would discharge his duties with total commitment. He also thanked the Almighty for becoming the CLP leader and also the people of Aghunato for extending support and cooperation to him despite many odds. Joshua Sumi MLA in his speech expressed confidence in the leadership of Yepthomi and said pointed that the party’s defeat in the last state general elections was due to the “mistake committed by the party leadership”, even though people were with the Congress. He said “Congress people were not satisfied with the performance of party leadership” and blamed the defeat disgruntlement within the ranks which led to demand for change of guard. “We therefore requested the AICC for the change of leadership” but at that time, the party high command was opposed to it as it felt that could have created more rift in the party . However, after “much persuasion, the AICC conceded to the request” for the change of CLP leader. MLA from Impur Nungsang Yapang who also spoke in the programme urged the Congress workers and supports to have a “big heart” with the change of leadership in the CLP. He said Yepthomi is a Naga leader and not only for the Sumi people and sought the support of all sections of Nagas. MLA from Tenning, Tarie Zeliang thanked AICC president, Sonia Gandhi for appointing Yepthomi as next CLP leader. While lauding the leadership qualities of former CLP leader, Chingwang Konyak, he said Yepthomi would perform better than him (Chingwang). “Congress has choosen a good leader” he asserted. Vice President of PCC, Nillo Rengma on behalf of the party, expressed confidence in the leadership of Yepthomi and thanked the party high command for reposing confidence in the new CLP leader. He urged Congress supporters and sympathizers to forget the differences and work under the new leader. “Indira Gandhi had confidence on Hokishe, so also her daughter in-law Sonia has confidence on Tokheho” he said. Appealing for cooperation of all sections of people, Rengma said Yepthomi is the party’s chief minister - in waiting. PCC secretary, Mughato Achumi said days of Hokishe and K L Chishi are over and that people want young and energetic leaders like Yepthomi who can lead Naga people to a higher grounds. He expressed hope that the new CLP leader would deliver goods to the Naga people. Several party officials from PCC and DCC also spoke during the programme, apart from public leaders and GBs from Aghunato constituency.
