Republic Day was celebrated in 11 districts including 19 sub-divisions in Nagaland. The common highlights of the celebrations included inauguration if exhibition halls, visiting hospitals, jails, presentation of various awards and exhibition matches.
CHIEPHOBOZOU: Advisor, Information Technology & Communication, Vikho-o Yhoshü graced the celebration of Republic Day at Chiephobozou Sub-Division as chief guest. He unfurled the National Flag and took salute from the parade contingents of 4th NAP, Ex-Servicemen, NCC Girls Chiechama, IR Bn. Zhadima and DBS Chiephobozou.
KIPHIRE: Republic Day at Kiphire headquarters was celebrated with Advisor, DUDA, E.E. Pangteang as the chief guest. Unfurling the National Flag at the chief guest took salute from five parade contingents. The chief guest presented district award certificates to the GBs and DBs of Joint Forum. Cultural dances and entertainment were the highlights of the function.
MEDZIPHEMA: Medziphema Sub-Division celebrated 61st Indian Republic Day at Medziphema local ground. Minister for Forest, Environment, Ecology & Wildlife and Excise, M.C. Konyak unfurled the National Flag and delivered the Republic Day speech as the chief guest. Highlights of the day included march past parade by five contingents, presentation of cultural items by five troupes and special number by Medziphema Town Women Organization
MON: At Mon headquarter Republic Day was celebrated with Minister for School Education & SCERT, Nagaland Nyeiwang Konyak as chief guest. He unfurled the National flag and took salute of seven contingents. Traditional cultural dances were performed by Tobu Union Mon (Women) and Leangha Union Mon (men). Later in the evening, exhibition football match was played between DC Xl and SP Xl.
MOKOKCHUNG: Peaceful atmosphere in Mokokchung district helped people to celebrate the Republic Day in an impressive manner at Imkongmeren Sports Complex with Minister for PHED, Dr. Ngangshi K. Ao as the chief guest.
The Republic Day parade was commanded by Lima Longkumer, Dy. SP (Reserve), Mokokchung. Cultural programmes were presented after the ceremonial function by 150 CRPF, Gorkha Union Mokokchung, Mangmetong village, Ao Sungkum Cultural Club, Mokokchung Village, Khensa village and Aruju Cultural society, Khar village. Eight Guides and twelve Scouts were honored by the Chief Guest on the occasion by presenting Rajya Puraskar (Governor’s Award) for Scouts and Guides for 2009.
NIULAND: Unfurling of the national tricolour, cultural programmes and exhibitions marked the 61st Republic Day celebrations at Niuland sub-division with patriotic fervour. Additional deputy commissioner Anenla Sato, administrative officers, GBs, government teachers and public of Niuland Sub- division celebrated the Republic Day with MLA and Chairman Macrofed C.L John hoisting the tricolour at a formal function.
The MLA read out the government’s address to the state which was followed by inspection of parade, march past and cultural presentations. The MLA took Rashtriya salute form six contingents that was led by Inspector Lipok Ao.
The function was held at Niuland public ground and was attended by other dignitaries including ex- ministers Noke and Nyamnyei and present MLA Aloh. The function was followed by inauguration of exhibition by MLA John and prize distribution to the participants of the function.
NOKLAK: Along with the rest of the country Noklak headquarter also celebrated Republic Day at public ground, Noklak town with Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Development and REPA, Pangnyu Phom as the chief guest. The chief guest unfurled the National tri-colour and took salute from five parade contingents. The chief guest delivered the Republic Day followed by the presentation of tribal dance by women cultural group of Nokyen and cultural group of Noklak town.
PUGHOBOTO: Pughoboto sub-division celebrated Republic Day at local ground, Pughoboto with MLA and Chairman NKVIB, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire as chief guest. During the ceremonial programme, chief guest unfurled National Flag and took salute from the five march past contingents led by ABSI, Hekhoto Sumi from 8 NAP, Pughoboto. The highlights of the day were cultural programme presented by Lazami village and Mishilimi women, distribution of sweets by ADC office, Pughoboto.
PHEK: In Phek Republic Day was celebrated in local ground with minister for Health & Family Welfare, Kuzholuzo Nienu as chief guest. The highlights of the celebration included presentation of cultural, tug of war, Kabaddi game was played by business community of Phek town. In order to spread awareness to the people about disaster management, earthquake rescue drill was demonstrated by 1st Battalion NDRF (BSF).
PEREN: Minister for Planning & Co-ordination, Evaluation, Vety. & Animal Husbandry and Parliamentary Affairs, T.R. Zeliang unfurled the National Flag at the ceremonial ground in Peren and took salute from Parade Commander and inspected the parade. The chief guest also inaugurated the exhibition stalls put up by various departments at Peren town hall. Highlights included Zeliang dance by Peren town youth organization, Arunachal Yak dance by Sainik School Punglwa, folk song by Hairaisile and friends, Koksui dance by Peren Kangbeupum town, visitation of District Civil Hospital by Peren District Beauty and Aesthetics Society, visitation of Sub-Jail Peren by CMO and team, visitation of Christian Servanthood Orphanage Home by PTYO.
SHAMATORE: Republic Day was also celebrated at Shamatore with the hoisting of the National Flag in all Government offices, institutions and commercial buildings. The final parade review was done by Thongthong Yimchunger, Subedar Major, VGs, Shamator.
Chief Guest, parliamentary secretary for information & public relations and economics & statistics, R. Tohanba unfurled the National Flag and inspected the parade contingents. The highlights of the celebration included songs and dances presented by Lunsoberü-Thopun Society, Shamatore Village,
Menfolk group from Melekangkiur and Shamatore, besides Leangkongru Womenfolk group.
TULI: Republic Day in Tuli was celebrated with b parliamentary secretary, geology and mining, irrigation and flood control, border affairs, Yanthungo Patton at public ground.
The parliamentary secretary after hoisting the national tri color while read out the ten paged speech, highlighted on the measures adopted by the department of irrigation and flood control and said that the department was contemplating to take up major irrigation projects in the district depending on the feasibility.
The parliamentary secretary was accompanied by advisor Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA), L. Temjen Jamir, secretary irrigation and flood control by B. Thawang Konyak and officials.
TUENSANG: Tuensang district celebrated the 61st Republic Day at parade ground with the Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, Neiba Kronu as the chief guest. The chief guest took Rhastriya Salute from 10 parade contingent including, 150th CRPF, DEF Tuensang, 3rd NAP Tuensang, Kuthur VG, Tuensang Village VG, Ex servicemen, NCC Sao Chang Government College, Saramatian Bharat Scout & guide, 3rd NAP Band and veteran Band Tuensang. The programme was successfully concluded with prize distribution followed by Band retreat by 3rd NAP Tuensang. Earlier the chief guest unfurled the National Flag and took the salute from the parade contingents. (Correspondent)
TSEMINYU: Tseminyu Sub-Division headquarter celebrated Republic Day at the ADC’s office compound with Shetoyi, MLA & Chairman, NHHDC as the chief guest. He unfurled the tri-colour National Flag and delivered the Republic Day address.
The highlights of the occasion were folk song presentation by children’s group and mothers’ group from Tseminyu Town Baptist Church and folk dance presentation by Children’s Sunday School, Tseminyu Old Town Baptist Church. Special number was presented by Bethel Women group and tug-of-war by Tseminyu Town Council and Dobashis verses GBs.
WOKHA: Wokha district celebrated Republic Day at local football ground. Deputy Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Ralanthung Yanthan graced the occasion as the chief guest. The deputy speaker took Rashtriya salute from the eight parade contingents. Other highlights of the programme included folk song by Wokha Town Baptist Church, Wokha Town Baptist Church Choir and folk dance by Lotsu cultural troupe. The day long celebration included feeding of jail inmates and others by the Chamber of Commerce, Wokha and Indian Red Cross Society Wokha.
ZUNHEBOTO: In Zunheboto Parliamentary Secretary for Industries & Commerce Dr. K.C. Nihoshe graced the Republic Day as chief guest. Special presentation was made to all the GBs of 35 A/C (Zunheboto). The Deputy Commissioner Award was also given to Town Councilor of Zunheboto town. The other highlights of the programme included presentation of menfolk dance presented by DC Hill West colony and Lizu New village.
Meanwhile, Lions and Leo Club of Dimapur, Gorkha Public Panchayat, Kohima, Dimapur Municipal Council, Rotary Club of Dimapur, The Classic Club Kohima, Lions Cub of Kohima, Young Man’s Christian Association and Dimapur Club observed the day by distributing food items to the inmates of various hospitals, orphanage homes and rehabilitation centre.
