No construction in public areas

State government, as per the Supreme Court order, has directed all deputy commissioners of the districts and magistrates/deputy commissioners in charge of the districts, to ensure that no unauthorized construction be carried out or permitted on public places and submit report to chief secretary within four weeks. The state chief secretary Lalthara said that in the Special Leave to Appeal (civil) filed in the SC by GoI vrs state of Gujarat and others, a statement was made to the effect that 1200 temples and 206 Islamic shrines had encroached on public space. With regard to this, the SC had directed that henceforth, no unauthorized construction shall be carried out or permitted in the name of Temple, Church, Mosque or Gurudwara etc. on public streets or public parks or other public places etc.
