Phek farmers tour Sikkim, West Bengal

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Phek conducted farmers (SHG) exposure tour to Sikkim and West Bengal from January 18 to 26. Altogether 20 participants including two government officials undertook the exposure tour with agriculture officers Seyevielo Sono and Rokwetsholo Kapfo as the team leaders for the tour. During the tour at Sikkim the farmers were taken to Indian council of Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR) where they were shown various facilities and laboratories for tissue culture, mushroom spawn production, advanced agricultural techniques etc. They were also taken to Sikkim orchid Ltd, which is a joint venture company of Natsyn Flora Chennai and Horticulture Cash Crop Development, Sikkim, where they have been exposed to several orchid species and various cultivation techniques. Later they were taken to a rose and vegetable farm run by self Help Group (SHG) and Jagri Falls, Earlier on January 18 on the day of leaving for Sikkim, the participants were taken to various important places in Dimapur, Viz; Green Park, Niathu Garden, Appu Park, stone craft centre at 6th Mile. At Green Park, Mushroom spawn production, cultivation and tissue culture methods were explained to them by the specialist. The participants of the tour expressed their gratitude to. Prakesh Thakuri, Deputy Director of Food security and Agriculture development department, government of Sikkim for lending logistic support and guidance to the entourage. The touring team also thanked Imyulepdang, Project Director, ATMA & DHO Phek and Imtitemjen, Deputy Project Direcor, ATMA & DAO Phek for organizing the tour.
