Leader of the opposition Congress Tokheho Yepthomi has attacked the ruling DAN coalition as a “business regime” and indulging in highest levels of corruption and political gimmickry. The CLP leader slammed DAN over handling of the retirement issue and ROP of government servants. He said the DAN government decided to raise the retirement age from the existing 57 to 60 years of age on October 13,2007 to win the sympathy of government servants “solely to win the election” but without taking into account the thousands of unemployed. After achieving its electoral goal, Tokheho said the DAN government then turned to the NSF and ENSF for political survival in dealing with the issue when it added the clause of 35 years length of service for retirement. He said the “arbitrary revocation” of the earlier retirement bill decided in 2007 created much uncertainty and having a direct or indirect adverse affect on families. The CLP leader further said though there are more than 80,000 government employees, the official figure stood as below 70,000. He said there are “an unprecedented number of bogus employees in the state” as in the education department and also many who remain in service even after superannuation. Around 3600 affected by the retirement act have not only been put under great difficulties but are going to suffer further as the state government does not intend to implement the 6th Pay Commission report which have been adopted in almost all states.
