Sovima village observed its 44th Foundation Day at the village local ground, 6th mile Dimapur on Saturday. The village was founded and established by a few people from Chiechama village under Kohima district in 1966. Sovima village founder member, R. Sopu Angami attended the foundation day programme and delivered a short speech.
Exhorting the gathering, he said people might have come from different communities and speak different languages but they needed to share common ideas and ideologies as they now belonged to one village. Stating that working together in unity was the ‘greatest thing’, Sopu called upon the citizens of Sovima village to help each other towards uplifting the village.
Additional Director of Treasury (Retired) Sitseilhou Virie, who was the main speaker at the programme also emphasized on working together in honesty. He urged the people to follow the visions of their pioneers and take examples from the elders of the village. Putting a stress on separating good from evil ways, the speaker also mentioned the need for elders to work and lead the younger generation in the right way. Terming village council as an ‘institution of justice’, Virie encouraged village elders and council members to work together ‘God-fearingly’ with a positive attitude.
He appealed to the citizens to respect and cooperate with the village council as they were responsible in bringing development to the village. While asking people to work together in making Sovima a more vibrant, progressive and secure village, Virie further called upon them not to forget their ‘Christian and Naga’ cultural identity.
Others who spoke at the programme included Rev. M. K. Lorin and Vikeso, while Sovima VC chairman, Neikhriehu Kense, Sovima VC secretary, Jasahie and GB Thepfukeduo Kuotsu delivered welcome address, village report and vote of thanks respectively.
Cultural troupes of Angami, Rengma, Ao, Zeliang, Sema and Lotha tribes residing in Sovima village presented their respective traditional folk song and cultural items. Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Beiu Angami and Chiechama village Chairman were special guests at the occasion. The programme concluded with a foundation day feast.
