Diphu welcomes New Year

Although not a predominantly Christian place, the chill of New Year merriment was visible at every nook and corner of Diphu on the night of December 31. Youngsters were seen exchanging New Year greeting wishes with their chums, parties were arranged in almost every household, bursting of crackers beyond midnight could be heard, on January 1, large numbers of picnic parties were arranged at spots like Silonijan and Silveeta where people tasted local food items while rejoicing the advent of 2010. Meanwhile, one person died in road accident on Friday following head on collision between a truck and a bus carrying a picnic party, the incident took place near Bokulia. Information suggests that the bus loaded with members of a picnic party which went to Silveeta on January 1collided with a truck while returning to Diphu approaching from the opposite direction, somewhere near Bokuia. While few persons attained minor wounds, one person died on the spot after receiving grievous head injury. Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained till filing of this report.
