Mystery still shrouds the death of three persons of a family, residing in Hailakandi district of south Assam, over the past three days. Five members of farmer Aziruddin’s family, a resident of Kalinagar village, were admitted to Sorojini primary healthy centre in Katakhal township, about 20km from here, on Tuesday, after they complained of nausea, incessant vomiting and writhing pain. His daughter, Saina Begum, 15, died at the health centre on Wednesday. The other four were shifted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital at Ghoonger, 8km from here, where his wife, Halima Begum, 42, and elder daughter, Roshna Begum, 18, died, sources in the SMC said. The condition of his daughter Aina Begum, 12, and son Dilwar Hossain, 14, is still critical, doctors at the SMC said. The principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Swapan Dhar, said the deaths were caused by food poisoning. However, R.C. Dwivedi, the doctor-in-charge at Sorojini primary healthy centre, said the ailment could be confirmed only after the final medical report was obtained and the water in the family well checked properly. Five other persons from the village, belonging to different families, had also manifested the same symptoms on Tuesday. They, however, recovered. The Hailakandi administration has asked the joint director of health in the district to submit a report on the deaths in the village. Fake currency Police recovered fake US currency from an abandoned bag at the Assam State Transport Corporation bus station at Paltan Bazar in Guwahati on Saturday, says a staff reporter.
